Roof racks are definitely not fashion accessories! When you are not using your roof rack and/or roof box, take it off. Leaving these on can dramatically increase fuel consumption.

Turn off your engines in heavy traffic or waiting at level crossings, some vehicles such as the latest Mini's and BMW's already have this feature built into the engine management system.

Keep your windows closed, leaving them open can cause increased drag on the vehicle. On certain vehicles, using the air con can work out cheaper than driving with all of your windows open.

Do not carry unnecessary clutter in your vehicle, this causes excess weight.

Fill up in the morning and only half pull the leaver. All pumps are calibrated and tested by Trading Standards on a fast fill and a slow fill. Sometimes you can gain as much as 25p from doing a slow fill.

Keep an eye out on your mpg, when using different petrol stations. Sometimes the quality of fuel at one station isn't as good as another.
